Amazon Web Services Launches Bulk Email Service

Companies running Web applications through AWS can benefit from SES by using its published API, as it offers an alternative to sending marketing and transactional messages through a homegrown on premises email system or licensing and installing one from a third party.

The company says that using SES eliminates the need for configuring networks and managing email servers, as well as reduces cost by not requiring a long term commitment.

The hosted service is free for customers that send less than 2,000 emails a day from EC2 or Elastic Beanstalk, AWS free service that lets developers deploy and manage applications in the AWS cloud.

While SES is free to use, customers may be charged data transfer fees if they exceed their AWS free monthly bandwidth allowance.

Those SES customers that need to send higher volumes of emails can pay an additional 10 cents per thousand messages.

Using content filtering technologies, SES ensures that sent emails meet the standards set by ISP has a built in feedback system that notifies customers on any bounce backs, failed, and successful delivery attempts and spam complaints.
